Time intercourse correctly
Have sex on the 2–3 days before and on ovulation day. Daily or every-other-day intercourse during the fertile window maximizes chances.
Maintain a healthy weight
BMI outside the 18.5–24.9 range can disrupt ovulation. Even modest weight changes can restore regular ovulation in those with PCOS.
Take folic acid before conception
400–800 mcg of folic acid daily reduces the risk of neural tube defects. Start at least 1–3 months before trying to conceive.
Reduce stress
Chronic stress disrupts hormonal balance and can delay or prevent ovulation. Mindfulness, yoga, and adequate sleep support fertility.
Limit alcohol and caffeine
Alcohol can affect egg quality and implantation. Caffeine above 200 mg/day may be associated with reduced fertility. Reduce or eliminate both while trying to conceive.
Track your cycle consistently
At least 3 months of cycle data significantly improves fertile window accuracy and increases conception timing success.
Pregnancy Calculator FAQs
When is the best time to conceive?
The best time to conceive is during your fertile window — the 5 days before ovulation and the day of ovulation itself. The highest probability of conception is in the 2–3 days immediately before and on the day of ovulation. Our ovulation calculator above can estimate your fertile window.
How do I calculate my fertile days?
Enter your last period start date and average cycle length in the calculator above. Your fertile window is approximately 5 days before ovulation to 1 day after. Ovulation typically occurs 14 days before your next expected period.
How quickly can I get pregnant after trying?
Most couples (approximately 84%) conceive within 12 months of regular unprotected intercourse. Around 30% conceive in the first month, 75% within 6 months. Age, overall health, cycle regularity, and fertility factors all influence timing.
Can a period tracker help me get pregnant?
Yes. Consistent cycle tracking helps identify your fertile window accurately, improving your chances of timing intercourse for conception. PeriodTracker calculates your predicted ovulation date and fertile window, and can send fertile window reminders.
What affects fertility besides timing?
Fertility is influenced by: age (peak fertility in 20s–early 30s), weight (BMI outside 18.5–24.9 affects ovulation), diet and exercise, stress levels, smoking and alcohol, underlying conditions (PCOS, endometriosis, thyroid disease), and sperm health in the partner.
